Hard water—water with too many dissolved minerals like calcium and magnesium—can cause problems with your laundry, showers, and drinking water. That’s why many people in areas with hard water opt to use a water softener to pull dissolved minerals out of their water supply. Clarks Quality Water repairs and replaces non-functioning water softeners so you can enjoy refreshing water and save your hair, skin, clothes, and appliances from hard water.

Signs Your Water Softener Needs Repair or Replacement

Since most water softeners operate out of sight and out of mind, it can be hard to tell when they stop working. You’ll know you need water softener system repair when you start to see signs of hard water or a failing water softener. These include:

  • Stiff or scratchy laundry

  • Soap doesn’t lather properly or at all

  • Your faucets and drains show signs of crusty buildup

  • Your water tastes different or salty

  • Excessive water spots on your dishes and silverware

  • Lower water pressure over time

  • Dry hair or an itchy scalp after a shower

Water Softener Replacement

If your water softener is beyond repair, our experienced installers will replace it to keep your water soft. Water softeners that are heavily damaged or past their lifespan are the best candidates for replacement. If we recommend replacing your water softener, we’ll install a new unit efficiently and remove the old one, so you don’t have to deal with it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a water softener work?

A water softener removes calcium and magnesium from your water by filtering it through a mineral tank of resin beads charged with sodium ions. Ion exchange pulls calcium and magnesium into the resin, and sodium ions enter the water (but not in high enough numbers to make it taste salty). The brine tank of salt recharges the resin beads with more sodium ions.

How long do water softeners last?

Water softeners usually last between 8 - 10 years. However, a quality water softener can last up to 15.

The Clark’s have been handling our plumbing needs for years. Always fantastic service at a fair price. I highly recommend them!

After spending a few weeks getting quotes from several other business (Costco and home depot) , it quickly became clear that most water softener/ro companies operate as essentially used car dealerships. They will not show you the prices and have to come out to your house to inspect (even though you can tell them if you have a water loop).

Clarks is the exact opposite of that! They were transparent on pricing and it cost about $2000 for both a water softener and a reverse osmosis system. (far less than what Costco quoted me at $7500)

After calling Clark’s, they came out within the week and installed the water softener and Ro system. I am also happy to report that both systems are working great and I am highly satisfied.

I HIGHLY recommend Clark’s for your water softener and RO needs.

We have had our system for over a year now. Its operation has been flawless. Received a call to have the system serviced, set an appointment and the filters were changed at a very reasonable price.  While there I asked Brent a question about my water softener. He answered it and said it had a few more years of life in it, that there was no need to make a change now.  In contrast, another plumbing company was pushing me to change it for a very expensive one.
